How it works. Reference number is assigned automatically per scope (next free VAR-NNN for head contract, SVAR-NNN for subcontract). Initial status is limited to the valid entry states (Draft, Submitted or Under review). A subcontract variation must link to a parent head-contract variation. Counterparty and parent pickers live above.
